For those who’ve been monitoring, we now have 400 slots for listening on our MP3 (iTunes) stream. We know many of you have used the iTunes radio directory (Radio->Religious) to find AbidingRadio, and have enjoyed 24/7 sacred music. Lately we’ve been watching as the statistic numbers have been getting higher and higher and we’ve almost peaked out at our previous limit of 300 listeners at one time. In fact, when we add the listeners on Windows Media, we’ve had 533 listeners at one time tuned in! So just another way of letting you know that you’re not alone enjoying beautiful conservative, traditional, and sacred Christian music.

AbidingRadio - Instrumental

As we mentioned in our last post, we’ve launched an exciting new channel of music here at AbidingRadio, in response to many people saying that they love the music, but the words are so beautiful it distracts them from their day job. We’ve started something that gives you great music to meditate on with our new all-instrumental channel. For easy listening sacred instrumental favorites to listen at work, or when you want something quiet so you can meditate on the Lord, tune in to this beautiful new channel and hear the Majesty Strings, Jon Ensminger, LaShannon Hyder, and many more talented musicians sharing their praises without words.

Statistics

Some of you may have been wondering, how many people listen to AbidingRadio? Well - here are some statistics. First off - we can measure how many people are listening right now (because we have to pay for each listener ’slot’) but we can’t measure how many unique people tune in over the course of a day. But if you tune in around 2 PM CST there’s usually around 450-500 people listening, and the exciting thing is the number is growing!

We started in July 2006 and we were excited when 10 people were listening at the same time! But that number quickly grew:

Hello! We think we have it all finally fixed! - our ISP changed at our headquarters and it messed everything up…but we got it fixed and are now back on at our main center with our original playlist with 15 new CDs of great sacred music! What’s Playing and all stats are working correctly now! Thank you so much for your patience!

Wow! AbidingRadio is so popular we had to add more space! Right now we have over 360 people tuned in, but with our expanded capacity we can handle the traffic Right now we are #3 on Audiorealm and # 8 on Shoutcast for Christian radio.

We’ve added the “Now Playing” window so you can see what’s on AbidingRadio right now! Also, if you’ve noticed the need for the next 6 months is reduced because we were able to change some settings and lower the costs.

Better Quality MP3 Feed - April 21, 2007

We just doubled the quality of our MP3 feed - if you’re listening on iTunes you’ll notice the better quality sound! For you tech guys - we’re up to 48kbps instead of our previous 24kbps!

To all of our BJU listeners who have been unable to connect, rest assured the music checks :-). Actually - the problem is we were too popular and using too much bandwidth, so BJU IT is working on bringing us back, but their first priority is to manage their bandwidth…50 listeners @ 48kbps = 2.5 mbps of data! Word is it will be fixed by summer…

All Clear! - November 24, 2006

Thank you to all of our listeners who have endured through our week of disconnects, bad links, and more. We’ve been having problems at our main site and so have moved to our new internet broadcast hub. Checking the logs, we’ve had uninterrupted broadcasts for the last 24 hours - which is far better than our last site :-). We’re also running our new expanded library - almost 2,000 tracks of Conservative Christian Music! And, we’ve finally gotten our new Christmas radio station launched with Truth 1270! So enjoy this Christmas season, and keep listening!

Site Downage & More Music - November 20, 2006

We always tend to have a little difficulty as we work to improve AbidingRadio. Unfortunately we’ve had problems as we’ve been working to add hundreds of new songs to our playlist - be listening for them as we’ll be adding them in today!

UpSnap & AbidingRadio - November 6, 2006

To use this service, users just send a text message to 27627 containing your station’s keyword, which is “ABIDING”. They’ll then receive a text message response indicating that they’ve subscribed to your station at $1.99/month and asking them to text “Y” to confirm their purchase. (This only happens the first time that they use this service.) When they respond with that confirmation, we send them a message containing an embedded phone number. At that point, the user just hits the Send button on their phone to be automatically connected to the station. From then on, all they have to do to listen is send us the keyword again and we’ll respond with the phone number link. Hit Send and you are connected.

Now Available in MP3 for iTunes - September 1st, 2006

Mac users can now stream AbidingRadio in iTunes with our new MP3 Stream. The quality is not as good as we’d like, so you can test it out, but October 1st we’ll be upgrading the audio quality.

Listener Overload - August 30th, 2006

Wow! We underestimated the demand for continuous conservative Christian music…We maxed out of our alloted listener slots, so some of you were unable to connect today. We’ve expanded it now to make sure everyone can connect!

Site Outage - July 26th, 2006

After almost hitting the 100 hours of uptime, AbidingRadio’s servers suffered a power outage around 3:35 AM. Power is now restored and the stream is back up and running, and now we have an uninterruptible power supply installed….

Abiding Radio Upgrade - July 18th, 2006

Abiding Radio was down for approximately 15 minutes at 7:30 PM, July 18th, for an upgrade. We’ve upgraded the system from 512 Mb of RAM to 2.5 Gb of RAM to handle the demand due to popularity of the site. Keep listening and tell your friends about Abiding Radio - now with less lag and fewer crashes
